Painter

SHIRLEY WINSTANLEY

My interest in art started many years ago, with the smell of oil paint and turps in my father’s workshop, but I didn’t start painting ‘seriously’ until around 1996.  I am a self-taught artist although I have attended a number of workshops.   I work hard to put in the hours of “brush mileage” to increase my skills.   My travels to Europe further enhanced my skills.  I also travel within Australia, painting 'plein air' (sleeping in my Townace van on the side of the road)!  My paintings are in public and private collections both here and overseas.  I paint directly from life (alla prima) in the landscape, or from life models. I am passionate about painting.   It’s the joy of colour and painting directly from life.
